Session Title: Advances in Neuroimaging of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
1. The goal of this presentation is to provide the audience with an overview of the recent advances in magnetic resonance imaging, spectroscopy and describe their utility in traumatic brain injury.
2. Attendees will learn about the various imaging biomarkers of mild TBI including morphological imaging methods such as brain volumetrics, diffusion tensor imaging, and susceptibility-weighted imaging, as well as physiological imaging methods such as functional MRI, PET, and with a primary focus on MR spectroscopy.
3. They will also learn about previous findings in MRI (including DTI) and MRS in acute, chronic, and subconcussive head injury to see how it motivates current ongoing studies in chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
Summary: Advances in neuroimaging including magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy, provide us with greater insight to brain injury than ever before. Current findings from the acute to chronic stages of mild brain injury, including the rising concern of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in sports and military-related repetitive brain trauma, will be discussed.

Speaker Bio: Alexander P. Lin, PhD, is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and principal investigator at the Center for Clinical Spectroscopy and Psychiatry Neuroimaging Laboratory at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Lin earned his doctorate in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics from the California Institute of Technology. He has been involved in magnetic resonance spectroscopy since 1997 both from a research and clinical perspective. His primary research focus is on sports and military-related brain injury which has been featured by the media and funded by that National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense.
