| About the International Brain Injury Association Founded in 1993, the International Brain Injury Association (IBIA) was created in response to the growing demand from professionals and advocates throughout the world for collaboration and more information on all aspects of brain injury, from prevention to long-term care issues. IBIA is committed to the development and support of multidisciplinary medical and clinical professionals, advocates, policy makers, consumers and others who work to improve outcomes and opportunities for persons with brain injury. In 1998, the International Association for the Study of Brain Injury, merged with IBIA. In June 2003, the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS) was established as a chapter of IBIA, providing professionals from the United States, Canada and Mexico with a direct link to colleagues around the world dedicated to advancing the science of brain injury. IBIA works to develop positive relations and interactions between individuals, families, groups, organizations, institutions, diverse cultures and nations. IBIA strives to provide international leadership for creative solutions to the issues associated with brain injury. In May 2003, in Stockholm, Sweden, IBIA successfully concluded its 5th World Congress on Brain Injury. Abstracts of presentations at the Congress were published in a special supplement to IBIA’s official journal, Brain Injury, published by Taylor & Francis.
