Brain Injury Summit Was Held November 2 & 3, 2007, Washington, DC
In a collaborative initiative to highlight accomplishments and address the
gaps in service for returning troops, the North American Brain Injury
Society (NABIS) and the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) convened
a summit meeting in Washington, DC, on November 2-3, 2007 at the Latham
Hotel in Washington, DC. The working groups worked hard to prepare a
consensus document that is currently being edited by Michael Mason and will

Conference Highlights
Brain injury professionals from all over North and Latin America gathered in Miami, Florida, for the NABIS Brain Injury Conference of Americas in September, 2006. North Dakota Affiliate Established
The North American Brain Injury Society is pleased to announce the formation of the second state affiliate of the Society, the North Dakota Brain Injury Society (NDBIS). NDBIS has been established to promote professional awareness, understanding and dissemination of information about brain injury through education and collaborative opportunities that advance the field of brain injury in North Dakota. First U.S. – Cuba Meeting on Brain
Trauma
Robert D. Voogt, Ph.D., chairman of both the North American Brain
Injury Society and the International Brain Injury Association,
recently concluded his visit to Cuba for the 3rd International
Congress of Neurointensivism, which included clinicians and researchers
from the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America and the United States.
In addition to starting an international dialogue with Cuba, Voogt
presented IBIA as a membership organization comprised of multidisciplinary
professionals dedicated to making long-term improvements in brain
injury by collecting, sharing, transferring and disseminating
information internationally. He also discussed IBIA's role in
providing education and assistance in the development of mild
traumatic brain injury programs in developing countries. The Congress
also provided an opportunity to establish a working relationship
with the founders of the Latin American Brain Injury Consortium,
which like NABIS, has recently become an IBIA affiliate. |

Congressman Pascrell Addresses NABIS Assembly
On July 19th, 2004, Congressman William "Bill" Pascrell, (D NJ), addressed the attendees of NABIS' Professional Assembly at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Pentagon City, near Washington, DC. The Congressman informed the Assembly of the work he and his colleagues are doing to reauthorize the TBI Act and apprised NABIS members of how they can help to support this important legislation.
The Congressman's visit was a highlight of a very productive weekend for NABIS. Invited leaders from the field of brain injury gathered together to discuss the needs of professionals working in the field of brain injury and to develop a strategic plan for the organization. An independent facilitator guided the strategic planning sessions, with the results to be drafted and circulated to attendees for their review and comment. |

NABIS Chairman Attends Second U.S. – Cuban Meeting on Brain Trauma

NABIS Attends Congressional Brain Injury Awareness Fair
The North American Brain Injury Society recently participated in the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force's 2003 Brain Injury Awareness Month Fair in Washington, DC. Former President Ronald Reagan designated October as Brain Injury Awareness Month. To honor the proclamation, the task force hosts public events in coordination with national and international organizations. NABIS representatives, along with those from 31 other organizations, presented a booth to educate the 69 members of the task force and their staffs on brain injury, emphasizing the need for a professional brain injury organization. |

5th World Congress Abstract Supplement Available
The International Brain Injury Association recently concluded the 5th World Congress on Brain Injury in Stockholm, Sweden. The Congress was extremely well attended with over 80 speakers from 30 countries presenting a broad and varied program. Abstracts of the presentations at the Congress have been published in a special supplement to IBIA’s official journal, Brain Injury, published by Taylor & Francis. |
